YOGA & TAI CHI

Each morning a member of the spa staff will offer a Stretch & Yoga or Tai-chi class for 45 minutes.

In the afternoon if the Spa is not busy they will offer another class at 15:30 for 30 minutes. Should the second class be possible then they normally offer Stretch & Yoga in the morning and Tai Chi in the afternoon.

Dress is comfortable clothing with nothing too tight.

Meeting point is normally at the SeaDream Spa.

Yoga can have 15 persons per class on Deck 4 aft. Both of these are weather permitting. For Yoga we need more space and hence the reason for different venues. If the itinerary and weather permits we also offer Yoga on the beach.  Back-up is the gym. The Spa staff onboard practise Hatha Yoga - a classical style of Yoga that uses asana and pranayama to awaken, and begin to control the subtle energies within oneself and to use those energies to harmonize body, mind, and emotions. It is a relatively gentle, inward experience, not an athletic or aerobic practice. Basic Hatha Yoga with 12 postures is what is instructed. If your charter requires a higher level of Yoga, we will try to source an appropriate specialist Yoga instructors so that the more advanced form of Yoga can be introduced at additional costs.

Tai Chi can have 20 persons per class and we do it on Deck 6 forward; weather permitting.

The Spa staff onboard are trained to instruct in the Yang style of Tai Chi, with a wide base stance, round movements and an even tempo. Yang Tai Chi is recognized as the most popular form of Tai Chi being practiced today. Each class starts with a ‘warm-up session’ and concludes with stretching. A full class will involve basic exercises being repeated up to 8 times, however the actual number of exercises and their repetition is adjusted, depending on the movement of the vessel, as one of the fundamentals of Tai Chi is complete physical relaxation to enable controlled movement and if the boat is swaying, this is impossible to achieve for most people, and does result in a reduction of the actual class time. These basic exercises and repetitive single movement training for Tai Chi is what is instructed. If your charter deems that a higher level of Tai Chi is required, we will try to source an appropriate Tai Chi specialist  instructor at an additional cost so that the more advanced form of Tai Chi can be practiced.
