Aft

Near, toward, or in the rear of the yacht.

Anchor

To drop anchor.

Berth

A bed on a yacht or another name for dock or pier.

Bow

Front or forward part of the yacht.

Beam

The extreme width of a yacht at its widest point.

Bridge

Navigational a command control center of the yacht.

Captain

Master of the vessel, with complete responsibility and command of the yacht.

CLIA Cruise Line International Association

A marketing organization comprised of member cruise lines dedicated to the education of travel agents on the viability of selling cruises as a vacation alternative.

Club & Activities Manager

Master of ceremonies for all entertainment and guest activities onboard. He and his staff are on hand to see that our guests have a good time

Deck

A floor on the yacht

Dock

Pier, berth, or quay.

Debarkation

The process of disembarking guests from the yacht.

Duty Free

Merchandise purchased in a foreign port that is US tax-exempt.

Embarkation

The process of checking-in guests prior to sailing from the homeport.

Funnel

The smokestack of the yacht.

Galley

The yacht’s kitchen.

Gangway

The opening through the yacht’s side and the ramp by which the guests embark or debark the yacht.

Gross Tonnage

Measure of the yacht’s volume.

Hotel Manager

An Officer responsible for ensuring quality service is provided in all hotel departments.

Knot

A unit of speed equal to one nautical mile (1.852 km) per hour, approximately 1.15 mph.

Munster Station

The place where guests gather to board lifeboats.

M/Y

Motor Yacht

Stern

The aft end of the yacht.

Oceanview stateroom

A stateroom with a view contains either a porthole or picture window.

Passenger/Guest Count

Maximum number of guests allowed on a yacht as determined by the number of lifeboat seats.

Porthole

Small round window.

Portside

The left side of the yacht when facing forward.

Pitching

The alternate rise and fall of the yacht’s bow while sailing.

Purser

An official responsible for all administrative functions onboard, as well as the supervision of guest relations via the Concierge Desk.

Pier Pickup

Arrangements for cruise tickets to be issued at the pier prior to sailing.

Registry

The country under which the yacht and its owners are required to comply with their maritime rules and regulations.

Rolling

The alternate sway from side to side of a yacht while sailing.

Stateroom (or cabin)

A private compartment on a ship.

Starboard

The right side of the yacht when facing forward.

Stabilizer

Apparatus which extends on either side of the yacht to reduce rolling.

Land Adventures

Optional tour or excursion into the port of call which may be purchased onboard yacht

Tonnage

Total weight in tons.
