ARTWORK

Onboard our artwork is by contemporary Norwegian artists with international reputations and was all personally selected by Linn Stokke Brynestad, spouse of SeaDream owner and Chairman, Atle Brynestad. Linn Stokke Brynestad has been an actress with the National Theatre in Norway for many years and an author of both adult and children’s books. A highly active person, she also runs her own businesses, Steninge Palace Cultural Center in Sweden and HLT in Norway, a company producing fine pewter pieces, handcrafted candles and other special Norwegian gifts. Not only did she commission the various oil paintings, watercolors and original prints to be found on SeaDream I and II, but she also is responsible for the decoration and décor of both yachts.

Artist: Ulf Nilsen

Ulf Nilsen was not able to speak as a child. It was through his paintings that he gave voice to his loneliness and his expressive needs. At the age of 25 he became able to speak. He tells us that this occurred following an accidental meeting with a beautiful woman. His need to communicate with her was stronger than his fear and shyness---“During the whole night I talked and talked, and most likely I scared the hell out of this beautiful woman. I never saw her again. But I have spoken ever since.” Ulf Nilsen is married to the well known painter Ida Lorentzen and today he is also one of Norway’s most significant artists. Nilsen and Lorentzen are personal friends of Atle and Linn Brynestad. A small amount of Nilsen’s work is sold publicly and he is represented in many galleries and museums in Norway, Europe and North America.

Artist: Marian Heyerdahl

As the daughter of the late famous Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl, the sculpture of Marian Heyerdahl has it roots in many parts of the world. The cycle of her artistic research has come full circle from the African continent back to her homes in Norway and in Italy. Her work is sensual, organic and reflects an artist’s love and concern with the elements air, earth, fire and water. She accepts a few commissions and her work is may be found in Norway, the U.S. and elsewhere.

Artist: Oernulf Opdahl

Through Oernulf Opdahl’s entire artistic work, his paintings have expressed the time in which we live. It is the ocean, light and landscape from which Opdahl creates his personal expressions and with the changes of the different styles viewers become aware of his enormous technical skills. His work may be found in the private collection of H.M. Queen Sonja of Norway and in major Norwegian galleries and museums. Opdahl was also responsible for the Norwegian Nobel Institute’s Peace diploma for 1995.

Artist: Ada Lisa Gjerruldsen

Ad Lisa Gjerruldsen’s paintings often express happiness, energy---even surplus energy---based on strong and characteristically tight composure and a masterly control of color mix. Her themes might easily be from behind closed doors or from open landscapes. He work has been sold and exhibited in Norway, Portugal and elsewhere.

Linn Brynestad speaks about artistic glasswork: Glass has always been a fascination to people for more than seven thousand years. Glass captures light in a mystic form. It is a challenge to work with raw glass and to bring forward a sense of form and color into the glass object.

Artist: Maud Gjerruldsen Bugge

Maud Gjerruldsen Bugge is Head of Design at Hadeland Glaswerks, established in Norway in 1762. She has participated in many exhibits in Norway and elsewhere and has received the Norsk Designrad’s prize for excellence in design. Her work is avidly sought by collectors.

Artist: Lena Hansson

Lena Hansson is an industrial designer at Hadeland Glasswerks.  She has also exhibited widely and she too has received the Norsk Designrad’s prize for excellence in design. Her work is sought widely.
